Windows are a must in any building, it’s not only a must but also the law. But the bad thing with windows is everyone can see inside and also it lets lights in when you don’t need it. Especially when you’re trying to sleep. So the solution for this is a cover of some sort. Most people go for curtains but then that is so boring and common. So for those wanting to stand out, go with blinds. You may think there is only one kind of window blind but prepare to be educated.

There are actually a few styles including Venetian, Persian and roman blinds. First up we have the Persian type. This also known as slats. These types have the ability to be rotated so that they can let light through without having to open the blinds. The common material used for this type of blind is ether plastic or vinyl and can be either vertical or horizontal.

Next up we have roman blinds. These are commonly found in the UK and are generally made up of cloth. These cannot be rotated but can be raised up. When doing so the blinds will systematically pleat themselves on top of each other neatly and when lowered down will cover the entire window. This is more similar to a curtain than most blinds but is more convenient than curtain. So it is essentially a hybrid of curtain and a blind.

Next we have the Venetian kind. These are usually made up of either wood or metal and today are more commonly made with bamboo or known as wood blinds. This type of blind is very similar to Persian but the difference is mostly due to the material used. In England in the1700’s, patents were supposedly taken out on these blinds but however there was evidence that these are called French blinds long before that so the attempt was not successful. Then there is also the vertical blind. This type of blind has a much lower maintenance as it is harder for dust to collect on these types of blinds. Since the blind does not have to raise up but moved to a side this is preferred to be used on doors or floor to ceiling windows. These too have the option of rotating up to 180 degrees to allow light. So these are some of the options available out there, so if you’re in the market for new curtains, take a dare and maybe switch it up and go for blinds this time.
